We have to wait for our car service and found this place nearby. Coincidentally, me & my husband didn't have breakfast and decided to give this place a try. We ordered menu that we normally ordered at other dim sum places that we like to visit. And I can tell this place is a legit authentic dim sum place. The only thing I slightly dislike is the egg custard which I found not enjoying it, the custard is too sweet and the pie is not that crispy. They also offer a la carte menu in addition to dim sum menu, for your kind info. There is big screen inside the restaurant which I find it unique compared to other places. Parking is available behind the restaurant which pretty much not noticeable.
It used to be in another location and I was really sad when they closed it. It is definitely on the more expensive side but I think it is one of my favorite place for Chinese food while having some really innovative items. They also have dim sum all day that you can order and they are pretty delicious as well. For the most part, if money isn't the issue, I highly recommend Bistro 1968 for the various type of food. I think the parking is a little problematic as their inside parking is actually a bit limited and the overall location doesn't stand out that much. Service is prob a little better than a lot of the cheaper end ones(not saying it's amazing but it's pretty good). Regardless, I do like Bistro 1968 quite a bit as I said. I would prob recommend coming for an earlier dinner to get a easier parking spot on the street or inside.
Came here on a Friday afternoon (2 pm), and there was no wait! Ordered their har gow siu mai, steamed bbq pork bun, egg yolk buns, tripe, pan fried radish, and Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce. Got chrysanthemum tea and it was $2 per person. Overall, the dishes we got were all well done. The big winner for me was the pan fried turnip cake, as it was pan fried to perfection and had the right amount of salt to it. Tripe had a nice little kick to it and the seasoning was solid. Egg yolk buns were good, but I like it just a little thicker in the egg yolk texture and not as runny. Only downsides of the dim sum? It costs $6 to get the XO sauce dish and no complimentary XO sauce. So I did not get that. I also initially did not get the Chinese broccoli order despite it being marked down to them and I didn't know until one of the waiters informed me that it wasn't inputted. At least they corrected that error. Overall, it was a good dim sum experience. It is pretty much similar to Lunasia/Chef Tony. Sneak in some XO sauce if you need it though, paying $6 for it is a rip off in my opinion.
Beautiful ambiance, as if I was invited for some event. We came here to meet our friends and they've been here before and recommended this restaurant. Wow, it did not disappoint; we raved about it as one of the best dim sum places in SGV area!! The parking was easy to find inside the structure parking and walk through the back to enter. We were seated right away as our friends were already seated at the front table. This review was a bit late because I went for the third time today!! It's really that much better than the ordinary dim sum places that I've been to. So far, my favorites have been the house special crispy lobster roll, which isn't a lobster, it's shrimps. I didn't mind but they should change the name to crispy shrimp. And the actual first favorite from my first visit was the "snow caped bbq pork bun". That's exactly as written. I would put baked bbq bun. I used to like the steam ones elsewhere, but here, for sure it's this one. So yummy and the bbq pork has perfect flavor!! Also, their egg custard tastes so much better than other places. It has the consistency like a flan. And the other dishes that I had take out today were the pan fried noodles Un supreme soy sauce. It's a pretty big portion foe one person. And their shrimp and Pork siu-mai was good. Eunice helped me out today and the very last time I had dined there and she was great with that I had wanted by showing her the pics of the popular dishes. All were delicious. We liked them all. Thisvis my new favorite dim sum place in the SGV area!! Thank you Bistro 1968 for being here, your great service and the delicious foods you offer!! Of course I'd be back!!
You come here for dimsum that's consistently delicious and with their traditional/classic flavors. We had no wait on Sunday at 10am right when they opened and were promptly served our dishes without much of a wait at all. The staff could read our minds and could tell if/when we need more tea or chili sauce. This place is a great option if you have a large party or group, as there's lots of tables with lazy daisys to help pass dishes around!
Big crowd, and long wait, but quality food so I'm glad we went. We came here on a Saturday morning, thinking we beat the rush... wrong lol Parking was difficult and we had to do a few laps before we found street parking allllllll the way down the street. There was definitely a wait, but it seemed like standard long dim sum wait, nothing outrageous. We got the usual hits for dim sum, and everything was good. We also got pork belly and egg tarts, even tried the gold har gao just cause that day. It was good, but not worth the price imo. We'll probably be back if we have friends in town who want to go, but with the long wait and bad parking, I won't be itching to go myself any time soon.
I attended the first day opening of this restaurant and have been back a couple of times. Overall the menu is quite interesting with some options you do not get in every dim sum menu. The plus is that they serve all day and menu items are made to order. There is a small parking lot in the back which most likely will be full, so be prepared for street parking. The wait can be long, but I believe you can reserve a table for parties of ten or more people. I really enjoyed the crispy lobster rolls with mayo dipping sauce, the egg yolk bun in a gorgeous black and gold presentation, crab egg rolls, scallop dumplings. The dim sum dish that blew my mind is the scallop and seafood egg wrapper dumpling topped with morel mushrooms. It is the absolute perfect dumpling, provided you enjoy seafood and mushrooms. I am interested in trying the baked abalone tart on a future visit.
Bistro 1968 was one of the best dim sum experiences I have had all the way from the tea, to the food, and to the restaurant utensils itself! All the classic dim sum dishes were amazing and the tea is delicious too with their tea cups also being designed to be gripped better! Service is great as they are thorough with the orders and remember to check on you as well! They have a parking structure next to the restaurant with a sign pointing to the area!
One of the better dimsum spots in sgv! Service is *as expected* but the food makes up for it. The steamed dim sums were big, steaming hot (instead of a lot of places being somewhat like warm or worse unevenly heated...), and the fried dim sum here had a fantastic variety. Fried dimsum did not have any day-old oil after taste and the batter they use to fry is light and crispy; no uncooked or unevenly burnt batter here! Parking lot in the back or on the street.
